Hey there makeup lovers! I hope you’re having a lovely weekend. Every new year brings new opportunities and exciting new things to try. This year I decided to forgo my Ipsy subscription for a while and try out Play! by Sephora. I’ve always been a big fan of Sephora, and at the same price point, why not give it a try? This month I received my first Play! box and I’m thrilled to share it with you.
January’s Play! by Sephora box’s theme is “Beauty, Set, Go”. It’s a new year and it’s time for a fresh start. This box includes 6 product samples that Sephora claims will help to “detox and refuel your beauty routine”. Let’s take a look!
Tarte FRXXXTION Stick – An exfoliating gel cleanser in a unique twist-up stick format! I’m always on the lookout for a new facial cleanser. I can’t wait to give this product a try!
OUAI Treatment Masque – A restorative hair mask that helps care for damaged hair, giving it a soft, healthy looking shine. If this masque doesn’t make my fine, color treated hair look oily, it’ll probably make it onto my buy-it-again list!
Tory Burch Love Relentlessly – I love perfume but I rarely splurge on a new scent. I immediately fell in love with this one though, which features notes of pink pepper, orris, and patchouli (honestly I don’t know what any of those are, but it smells amazing). I might actually splurge on the $68 bottle of this one.
FARMACY Honey Potion Renewing Antioxidant Hydration Mask – I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again, one of the absolute worst parts about winter is dry skin. Other than homemade body scrubs, which I love, I don’t have a lot of products that help me combat seasonal dryness. I’ve noticed recently that my face has been even more dry than usual, so this product is extremely exciting for me. This gel mask, which uses the ingredient Echinacea GreenEnvy, transforms into a cream that evens your skin tone, hydrates, and brightens all in one!
Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey – I don’t use a lot of lipsticks, so when I opened this one and saw how dark it is, I had my doubts. After trying this one on though, I’ve fallen in love. The color is sheer with a glossy finish and really compliments my skin tone. I’ve been looking for a lip color for a while and I might have just finally found one!
AmorePacific Color Control Cushion Compact Broad Spectrum SPF 50+ – CC cream hydrates, protects skin, and delivers buildable, weightless coverage. Although I usually opt for a BB cream where I have fairly even skin tones, I’m excited to see how a CC cream works for me. Curious about the difference between BB and CC (and DD and EE and … creams?), check out this article here.
So I’m pretty happy with my first Play! box and I’m really excited to try out these products. I think one of the things that makes the Play! box stand out from Ipsy is the pamphlet that’s included. The pamphlet tells you a little about each product and how to use it. It’s definitely nice to have a guide that helps you navigate through the products you’ve received. One thing Ipsy has on Play! though is a unique personalization of your box based on a your answers to their questionnaire. However, I think Sephora did a good job picking out items that are beneficial for everyone.
